Better London
London is already an international leader on many fronts as confirmed by the city’s successful 2012 Olympic bid. But now the capital has a new target: to shape up as a world-leading eco-polis in time for the games. The Love London festival brings this objective into the day-to-day lives of all Londoners.
The Better London events celebrate the city’s eco-innovators and identify ways that all Londoners can make sustainable changes. Numerous green fairs and fun days are overflowing with green ideas and practical advice. There are cycling test rides, compost and recycling workshops, bike repairs, energy saving innovations and for children, toy swap shops, toy making and junk drumming.
There will be many opportunities for discussion and debate throughout the festival notably at the Love London speakers forum at Camden Green Fair.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "Well done to Love London for putting on this fantastic festival to encourage fun, easy ways to make our capital a greener and cleaner place. Most people know that I love cycling, which is just one of the great activities being celebrated - and there is no better time to take to two wheels than now, when the sun comes out. I am delighted to lend my support to events such as these that work towards my own goal of making London a more pleasant city."
Love London is sponsored by the Mayor of London and Land Securities and we are delighted to be working with these key players who share our goal of a sustainable London.
Wendy Franks, Community Liaison Manager at Land Securities’ London Portfolio commented: “Land Securities is committed to investing in the capital and has long been aware of the importance of sustainability within its developments. We are delighted to, once again be part of the Love London festival and encourage Londoners to do the same. By getting involved and attending some of the exciting events on offer, you can make a positive contribution towards climate change and help others to recognise how their actions can benefit everyone’s future.”
Love London is also working closely with the Capital Clean Up campaign which inspires ordinary Londoners to do their bit to make the city cleaner and greener, by tackling problems like waste and graffiti hands on.
Better London also includes an event, showcasing the achievements of the London Leaders programme. The Leaders are a hand-picked group of the city’s greenest minds including one of Love London’s partners, Joe Oliver, a director of eco-entertainment company Bash Creations.
